First Grade Lesson Plans

Students will be able to read words with consonant and vowel digraphs.
Students will be able to mark and decode words using the Reading Horizons system
Students will read sight words with fluently.
Students will be able to answer detail questions about a story including setting, characters, and retell events in order.
This weeks activities include:
Games and activities with the sight words including the pool noodle activity, concentration, go fish,etc.

Students will be able to read and comprehend text by answering who, what, when, where, why and how questions.
Students will be able to discuss setting, characters, and details of a passage.
Student will be able to decode words using the Reading Horizons marking system
Students will recognize by sight and read fluently all 400 Fry words
Practice and play games with sight words including go fish, concentration, fishing game, board games, roll and read, etc.

We only have one more week of classes before we beginning DIBELs testing. Please be reading at home!!! This is a very important test to show growth for the school year and we want our students to do their very best.
We have had our first PST meetings and have started pulling classes. If your child is in intervention you will receive a letter from me. Please fill out the attached information sheet and return. It lets me know you got the letter and gives me important information.
Welcome back for another great year!! We are off to a fantastic start. We will do our DIBELs testing next week. We will have our first PST meetings on September 9th and intervention classes will begin after that. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and that you are ready for another exciting year.
We are just about finished with DIBELs testing. Classes will resume on January 24th. I will begin sending home newsletters again on February 1st. If you are new to intervention classes, we are here to help. Please don't hesitate to contact us.

I found 3 great new websites today that will help you work on both reading and math skills. They have interactive games that the children can play. I have put the link to the sites on the blog under Helpful Websites. This is not a substitute for you sitting down and reading every night with your child or practicing math skills with them.
