First Grade Lesson Plans
September 22 - 26

COS #1, 2. 3. 7, 22, 23, 37a
Students will be able to give the letter name, letter sound and use correct handwriting formation.
Students will be able to segment into sounds a CVC word and spell that word with letter tiles.
Students will read sight words with fluently.
Students will be able to answer detail questions about a story including setting, characters, and retell events in order.

This weeks activities include:
Powerpoint lessons to review letter name, sound and correct handwriting formation.
Games and activities with the sight words including the pool noodle activity, concentration, go fish,etc.
Blue folders and letter tiles to spell words that have the letters covered.
Dictation of CVC words using letters covered.
Learn the first marking of putting an "x" under the vowel in our Reading Horizons program.
Reading Sing Spell Read Write short vowel books

Second Grade Lesson plans
COS # 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 15, 19, 20, 21
Students will be able to read and comprehend text by answering who, what, when, where, why and how questions.
Students will be able to discuss setting, characters, and details of a passage.
Student will be able to decode CVC words with blends and two consonants at the end.
Students will be able to decode open syllables in words
Students will be able to determine if the word or syllable is a phonetic skill 1, 2, or, 3
Students will recognize by sight and read fluently Fry 1 list words.
Students will recognize by sight and read fluently Fry 2 word list selected words.
Activities:
Practice and play games with sight words including go fish, concentration, fishing game, board games, roll and read, etc.
Use the blue folder and tiles to spell words with blends.
Dictate and mark phonetic skill 1, 2, and 3 words
Read Iris and Walter
Do a close read of a six minute solutions passage. Use a red pen to underline important information needed to answer comprehension questions

We only have one more week of classes before we beginning DIBELs testing. Please be reading at home!!! This is a very important test to show growth for the school year and we want our students to do their very best.

We have had our first PST meetings and have started pulling classes. If your child is in intervention you will receive a letter from me. Please fill out the attached information sheet and return. It lets me know you got the letter and gives me important information.

Welcome back for another great year!! We are off to a fantastic start. We will do our DIBELs testing next week. We will have our first PST meetings on September 9th and intervention classes will begin after that. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and that you are ready for another exciting year.

I found 3 great new websites today that will help you work on both reading and math skills. They have interactive games that the children can play. I have put the link to the sites on the blog under Helpful Websites. This is not a substitute for you sitting down and reading every night with your child or practicing math skills with them.
